Homer IS fish country

Homer is the halibut capital, but salmon fishing right behind it! We could see sea lions from shore, enjoying their salmon dinners! Folks fish whether high tide or low. There is quite an extreme between high and low, low tide shown here...

Yesterday we went for a hike, really not much good hiking here, really need a boat over to the state park for good hiking!

Right down from our campsite there is an area called the "Fishing Hole," the view us not as nice, but some folks camp there because they are here for serious salmon fishing.

One of the unusual things is the salmon, jumping two or three feet out of the water! It was hard to capture but crazy to watch...

This area is known for eagles, but not so many this year, here is one big majestic fellow...

Today we drove out to the Skyline Drive, not quite the same as ours, but a pretty view...

The land on the right is the spit where we are staying, here is a close up...

We drove on to Anchor where we met some nice folks who saw our Va Tech jackets and learned their Aunt and Uncle live in Williamsburg! I mentioned the tide changes substantially...never seen a boat launched like this...

That mountain covered with snow in the distance is actually Iliamna Volcano rising up over 10,000 ft from the shoreline of Cooke Inlet!

We also passed another beautiful eagle awaiting halibut or salmon lunch!

Tonight we will enjoy another beachside fire, but tomorrow we are off for our next location, Seward and whale watching!
