No whales to be found!

The drive to Seward was just as pretty as the one to Homer, passing glacier fed rivers and lakes along the way...

Our campground was nothing like the last one, very unremarkable, downtown they do have some where you could squeeze together and if very luck you could get front row with a view, most of those without power.. We need a/c for the kids so we chose a less idyllic spot! Downtown was beautiful, on the Gulf of Alaska...

While today's Iditarod starts in Anchorage, the first started here!

Remy wants us to come back here and get his picture made!

There are several 4,6, 8, and 9 hour cruises out of Seward around the Gulf. It is predicted to rain for the next week and since it was a beautiful night, we jumped on the 6-10p.m. cruise. Perhaps we should have waited for a longer cruise in the rain, as we saw zero whales on this shorter trip! When we were in Maine we saw only 1 whale on another expensive whale watching trip. Oh well, the scenery was beautiful, the whales will have to wait!

This coal plant is an oddity in the beautiful surroundings...

The trip was not crowded, I was ready for the cold with long johns and layers!

Right in the harbor we saw these cute furry sea otters, very different from the sea lions we saw in Homer...

Soon we were underway and the scenery was gorgeous and the night was beautiful...

We saw lots of birds... eagles, cormorants, puffins, seagulls, kittiwakes...

And sea lions lazing on the rocks!

Once we were out in the Gulf it was vast...

We had a nice ride, but I am disappointed about those illusive whales!
