Golden Days Celebration

In 1902 Felix Pedro struck it rich in what is now Fairbanks, AK. Since 1951, every July, Fairbanks has held the largest parade in Alaska to celebrate the Gold Rush. We were lucky enough to be in downtown when it started this year!

While we were waiting for it to start, we learned a couple beside us was from Lynchburg, he was stationed at Ft Wainwright here in AK. His wife worked for the TV station that was filming the parade for  rebroadcast tomorrow. The next thing we knew she brought a TV crew over to film us for the 6:00 news, LOL, movie stars in AK!

The parade was focused on the pioneer days but had a bit of everything from old cars to fire trucks!

Many politicians running for Governor and Senator shook my hand...didn't have the heart to tell them we wouldn't be voting!

The floats were just great, a little different than we see back east!

And the Bands were good too...

It was a fun way to experience Fairbanks! On to dinner tonight at the Pumphouse for some Salmon or Halibut!
