Jasper Nat'l Park Day 2...Beautiful Scenery and Wildlife

Today we spent our 2nd day in Jasper Nat'l Park. It was a beautiful sunny, warm day with temps reaching 80 deg by afternoon. We left this morning about 8:15 and before we knew it we had seen a wolf, a black bear, and a big horn sheep, but no pics, they came up to fast!

This morning we hiked Maligne Canyon where the Maligne River runs through it cutting beautiful gorges along the way! The canyon is up to 165 ft deep, but narrow enough squirrels can jump across! The trail crosses a number of bridges making for an interesting hike. At the first bridge we came across this guy repelling!

Deep gorges made for nice waterfalls and peaceful rushing water sounds!

Eventually we made our way to the Maligne River, so pretty!

The only trouble with going down into a canyon, the hardest part was yet to come as we came out. We were worn out after making it back up and decided to drive down Hwy 93 back towards the Icefields to see some waterfalls we missed in the rain on the trip up.

We had barely gotten on the road and ran into these cuties.  Look at the baby elk, still has spots!

As we passed the Athabasca River, what a peaceful setting...

And more Elk!

We headed down about 50 km from the town of Jasoer to Sunwapta Falls, about halfway down the Icefields Parkway.

Next we made our way back up to Athabasca Falls, a spectacular view...

We decided to take a smaller connector road, 93 A, part of the way back in hopes of seeing wildlife. None to be found, but we saw some beautiful scenery.

This lake was interesting as the color changed from green to blue as it made it's way to the wider throat.

Next we passed Whilpool River...

And then the Confluent if the Whilrpool and Athabasca Rivers...

And finally the Athabasca...

And a nice herd of Elk enjoying the River...

We then drove up to the Jasper Gondola and through the Town of Jasper and decided to visit both tomorrow!  Stay tuned...
