We decide to take the scenic route...Route 40!
Route 40 is a straight (well not straight, but straight up) shot through the mountains. For the most part Dad said it was a good 2 lane road.Much of the road is a wildlife sanctuary which is odd because it is also frequently logged evidenced by the trucks and many areas recently logged! We loved the cut out wildlife signs, but so saw no wildlife!
The trip was a really pretty and uneventful drive even with some 8% grades.
Our campground, Northern Lights, may be a parking lot but to Mom and Dad it is luxurious because it has good wifi, 50 amps and full hook ups. Cinder and I are still looking for our luxury...grass! Mom wants to see the Northern lights from here, but it is like from 4am to 11pm so not a lot of darkness time even though this is an area they can be seen from if it is clear.
Best we could tell Dawson Creek has one claim to fame...and you see it over and over...
Yes, it's the start of the Alcan Highway, today known as the Alaskan Highway! Pictures are obligatory!
Yep even Homer joined in the fun!
And then there is the "original" location... I guess Lila and Brandon and Don and Julie and perhaps a few others from HHI will recognize the "official pose" Wayne feels compelled to strike! (Yes, an inside joke).
Even Homer had to get his taken here!
Okay so there is not a lot to do, there are a couple of small museums. We headed on to the Historic Kiskatinaw River bridge, a part of the old Alcan Hwy, milepost 17.3Finally, we stocked up in food, fuel and we are ready to start the official Alaskan trip. Our plan is to go up through the "Top of the World," weather permitting. We should reach Chicken, AK in about 10 days. We don't expect to have much wifi, but you never know!

If you guys have not picked up a copy of the MILEPOST trip planner and travel guide, you should. I makes interesting reading as you travel down the Alaska Highway.
